Spinach

Post by RobRegish »

More emerging research as to the anabolic effects of 20-hydroxyecdysterone as found in spinach. Now, you'd have to eat a LOT of spinach (1KG/day) to get this, which is why ecdysterone extracts as found in Kre-Anabolyn/Adaptogen N are used in The Blueprint.

Still, spinach is one of the highly recommended alkalizing foods recommended in the Blueprint. Here's why:

May 07Spinach Has Steroid Effect

Remember the cartoon about Popeye? This guy ate spinach, and after it his biceps grew really fast and he became superhero. But was it just a made-up story or does eating spinach really contribute to muscle growth? Scientists have proven, that indeed spinach does have that steroid effect. This is why it’s recommended to include this greenery into a daily diet of bodybuilders.

Why Spinach Is Beneficial to Health
In general, spinach is extremely beneficial to one’s health. Look, why.

Spinach is rich in vitamins.
It combats eye disease.
Spinach has a detoxifying effect.
It cures gum diseases.
Eating spinach helps cure anemia.
Spinach is useful in the fight against cancer.
Consuming spinach contributes to reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
This list can be continued with many other items.

Why Bodybuilders Need Spinach in Diet
According to laboratory tests, eating spinach increases the manufacture of muscle protein by 20 per cent due to a steroid chemical phytoecdy contained in it. Consuming plenty of spinach on a daily basis can boost your muscle power.

Truth about Steroid Effects of Spinach
However, one would need to eat on average 2Ib (1kg) of spinach to achieve muscle growth similar to Popeye, claim scientists at Rutgers University in New Jersey. According to New Scientist magazine, in order to gain equivalent amounts of the steroid one would need to eat even more than one kilogram of spinach daily. Remember, that even 50 grams of spinach a day would be very beneficial to every bodybuilder’s health and help your muscle grow faster, anyway.

Ha ha. The sailor man was right all along!

If memory serves, Alkaplex Green Plus as I recommend in the Blueprint has a healthy dose of spinach extract. This, in addition to 8 or 9 other deep green super-concentrates that alkalize the body.

So whether you're eating it straight up or getting a concentrated dose in an easy to use capusle like Alkaplex Green Plus, make sure to work it into The Blueprint.

When I was a kid I learned to eat my spinach with a little salt and sugar. Made it so tasty I could eat it with every dinner.

Octacosanol is another good reason to inhale spinach. ( even though not everyone is a high responder to octacosanol )

Spinach is also easy to grow and can be grown in all but the hottest and coldest months… Serial 3 X 4 ft beds work for me.
By growing it your self, you can balance the soil and feed it well and be more assured of high and fresh nutrient density. I pick mine early AM and put it directly into sub 40 degree frig… wash and use later in day…

:?: :?: 's
Wondering which types have the highest levels of 20-hydroxyecdysterone ??
Heirloom or hybrids, etc? Fast bolting or slow bolting ?? Young or mature ??
Wondering if spinach sprouts are high in 20-hydroxyecdysterone ??

Wondering if there is any simple home processing that might bust loose / make more available / extract the 20-hydroxyecdysterone ??

popeye probably wouldn't have a clue

pros and cons of eating it raw or steamed? I heard somewhere that the body can't digest raw spinach very well unless you add lemon juice to it.

thoughts? It's day 1 on the 5 day famine tour and I'm STARVING!

Ha ha!

Welcome aboard. Not sure about the raw vs. cooked spinach question. I will say this: the raw will give you more ecdysterone content (even more if you don't wash it).

It's nominal though. You'd have to eat a LOT of spinach. Still, as a deep green superfood it's hard to beat!

m4l is right.

It really should be steamed, at least, to unlock all the nutrients.

As some of you know, I'm a big proponent of raw foods, but certain things like spinach and tomatoes for another are far more nutritious when cooked.
